Professor Ronald J. Allen from Northwestern University has given six inspiring lectures on Evidence

Invited by China Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization, the “111” Plan Base for Evidence Science Innovation and Talent Recruitment and the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, CUPL, Professor Allen from Northwestern University Law School has given six inspiring and interesting lectures on Evidence from the perspective of both theoretical and practical levels from May 20th to May 29th, 2015.

Northwestern University is one of most prestigious universities in America and its law school is one of the top law schools, enjoying a great reputation all around the world. Professor Allen is one of best law professors in the field of Evidence Law. Professor Allen is John Henry Wigmore Professor of Law in Northwestern School of Law.

The lectures lasted for six days. Professor Allen has mainly focused on the following topics:

  1. American legal process, constitutionalism, separation of powers, the American litigation system and the trial of a dispute.

  2. Johnson case.

  3. The foundations of the law of evidence, the modern conceptual foundations of the field, relevancy and materiality, and policies inconsistent with truth determination.

  4. Laying the foundations of proof.

  5. The peculiar Anglo-American hearsay rule and its exceptions.

  6. Burdens of proof.                      

Professor Allen has given the lectures from a conceptual and theoretical way with many specific examples, providing students with many good and deeper insights into the law of evidence. Also, students have really made progress through the learning and group discussions. Students have participated actively in Professor Allen’s class.
