Peking University Professor Thomas Yunlong Man Delivered Courses on “Legal Profession and Practices”

Invited by the "2011 Plan" China Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization, the "111 Plan" Base for Evidence Science Innovation and Talent Recruitment and the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, Professor Thomas Yunlong Man from Peking University, as well as an adjunct professor of CUPL, successfully delivered a seven-day course in CUPL since Nov 9th 2015.

Thomas Yunlong Man, J.D. in Indiana University Maurer School of Law and Ph.D. in American Constitutional History in Johns Hopkins University. He joined STL in 2014 after 17 years of law practice in cross-border mergers & acquisitions and corporate transactions with a number of leading international law firms in Chicago, Shanghai and Beijing, including as a partner with Baker & McKenzie, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, Hogan Lovells and Morrison & Foerster. Now, Professor Man is Professor from Practice of Peking University School of Transnational Law and adjunct Professor of CUPL.

The course was focused on legal profession and practices, including Foreign Invested Enterprise (Foreign Joint Venture, Cooperative Joint Venture and Foreign Invested Enterprise), due diligence, preparation of contracts, government approval and other relevant practice knowledge. Also, Professor Man talked about Variable Interest Entities and expressed Sina Corporation in detail, which was one of most typical VIE cases in China.

During the course, Professor Man invited an experienced lawyer in the area of International Project Financing from Latham & Watkins LLP and a famous lawyer in the intellectual property right area. Their excellent speeches gave students many profound insights and thoughts of those areas.

The course was taught mainly in English, giving students many practical suggestions and useful knowledge, which were highly praised by our students.
