Professor Paul Roberts from the University of Nottingham gave a course on topic of "English Criminal Evidence in Comparative Perspective"

Invited by China Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization, the "111 Plan" Base for Evidence Science Innovation and Talent Recruitment and the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, CUPL, Professor Paul Roberts from the University of Nottingham successfully gave a one-week course on the topic of "English Criminal Evidence in Comparative Perspective" for CUPL graduate students since April 6th to April 14th, 2016.

The University of Nottingham is one of the best universities in the United Kingdom and around the world. Its law school is one of the top law schools with great reputation. Professor Roberts specializes on the criminal evidence law. In these seven days, this course provided an intellectually rigorous scholarly introduction of the law of criminal evidence in England and Wales, and framed this exposition within a broader comparative context relevant to the recent evolution of procedural law in China. The course begins with Comparative Methodology and Criminal Adjudication, then part II introduces the Foundational Concepts and Institutional Context of English Criminal Evidence, part III of the course explores the Impact of Human Rights Law on English Criminal Evidence. Finally, Part IV of the course addresses the Comparative Criminal Procedure Reform.

The primary objective of this course is to provide students with an astute working knowledge of the fundamentals of criminal evidence law and practice in contemporary English criminal trials that is also directly relevant to their own situation.

Professor Roberts encouraged students to think and talk actively in class and had interesting discussions with them through the way of case study. Students all learned a lot about the English criminal evidence and obtained the basic framework of English criminal evidence. Many students became interested in it. Professor Roberts' course is warmly welcomed by the students and teachers in CUPL.
